The Story Of Sage: Turning My Passion Into A Business

If you happen to see this post I hope you enjoy some fun facts about me, but mostly about how my business came to be…

Hi! I’m Amber, the founder of Sage Organic Skincare. I love life, and can always find joy in the simplest things. I love the sunshine, being outdoors, and pretty much all things fitness. I’m the youngest of four girls and I’m obsessed with my nieces and nephew. Tyler is my partner, my forever soulmate. Maybe we’ll get married, or maybe we’ll be like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell? Time wil tell. I have three children who are all dogs: Todd, Lucy, and Winnie. My business child, Sage Organic Skincare, was born in 2011. I try my best to manage the craziness that comes with my life and, honestly, I’m enjoying it every step of the way. Well, let’s be real here … most steps of the way.

“What’s the worst that can happen? You fail.”- Dad

I get my wisdom and entrepreneurial spirit from my dad. He has taught me valuable life lessons that hold their value to this day. My mom taught me empathy, and the impact a nurturing touch can have on someone. I don’t take either of these traits lightly. Business was a part of my life starting from a young age. I signed my first contract at 8 years old. Well, it was a hamster contract… I wanted a hamster, so my dad made me sign a contract agreeing to the commitment that this creature would require. But hey, maybe that hamster contract sparked something in me — thanks, dad!

I graduated from ASU with a degree in business and mass communications. Although, if anyone’s familiar with a college major that allows you to study health and animals through a creative lens, that probably would have been a great degree for me. After thinking too much about what I should study, I finally told myself “Just get the degree, and figure the rest out later.” And that’s exactly what I did. I started beauty school right after graduation. I knew I wanted to focus on skin, as it is related to health but ended up getting talked into a cosmetology program. I soon realized cosmetology and salon life was NOT my vibe, so I stepped away and became a dental assistant. At one point I considered going back to school to become a dental hygienist or even a dentist. I questioned if I could see myself in that career forever, or if I was ready to take on school debt. You can probably guess the answer was no. I took a semester of interior design at a community college, but eventually circled back to skincare. This time I took a risk. I created a safe, honest business and environment. Hellooo, Sage Organic Skincare!

“Chick-Fil-A and In-N-Out are two very successful businesses. They do ONE thing, and they do them well.”- Dad

I had a homeopathic doctor come into my life at age 11. He and his wife are two incredibly influential people who have impacted my life and health. I feel lucky to have had them enter my life at such a young age. They’re a large part of why I approach beauty, health, and skincare the way I do. Like Chick-Fil-A and In-N-Out, my menu has never been fancy. I chose to do one thing, and I do it very well. This is my unique spa experience, only it’s much more than a typical skincare service. I hold my values strong, and remain my authentic self through it all. I’m certified in dermaplaning, facial cupping, buccal massage, QI Beauty, manual lymphatic drainage, sugaring, and microblading. Sorry, that was a lot. Finally, I strongly believe that the anti-aging culture is toxic and unrealistic. I refuse to hop on board. To me, beauty is accomplished by embracing what’s truly important in life, caring for our personal well-being while simultaneously considering environmental health.

“Do not complain about growing old. It is a privilege denied to many.” -Mark Twain

I can’t wait to continue what I love and do best daily; Encouraging individuals to embrace their natural beauty and radiate self esteem through all stages of life.
